Frequently Asked Questions

What does the engraved number, around the root of the blade mean?

Blade Serial Number LEGEND

To decipher our Blade Serial # Code...

For example, our new blade SN could be: “BL B S4 48 T 08 H

So, to decipher this Blade Serial Number Code...

BL B S4 48 T 08 H
1st character, of our sample Serial Number, indicates the Blade Model

_________________________________________________________

BL B S4 48 T 08 H
2nd
character, of our sample Serial Number, indicates the Blade's Direction of travel (*looking from the rear of the application)

  • Possible Direction could are just:
    L (Left - CCW - CounterClockWise)
    and
    (Right - CW - ClockWise)
when looking from the rear of the application

_________________________________________________________

BL B S4 48 T 08 H
3rd character position, of our sample Serial Number, indicates the Blade's Color. Normally either "B" for Black or "W" for White

  • Common Color Codes could be: B or W

_________________________________________________________

BL B S4 48 T 08 H
4th - 5th characters, of our sample Serial Number, indicate the Hub Type, and the # of Blades the Hub was designed to incorporate.

4th Position indicates the Hub Style & Bolt Pattern

  • "S" - Standard Apex hub with a 75-mm diameter mounting bolt pattern, using 6-bolts.  This is the Standard hub for the Rotax line of 2-cycle engines (447, 503 & 582).
  • "9" - Rotax 912/914 Apex hub with a 4-inch (101.6-mm) diameter mounting bolt pattern, using 6-bolts
  • "E" - Special "E" Apex hub with a 75-mm diameter mounting bolt pattern, using 6-bolts

5th Position indicates the # of Blades the Hub was designed to hold.

    • " 2 " - TWO bladed hub
    • " 3 " - THREE bladed hub
    • " 4 " - FOUR bladed hub
    • " 5 " - FIVE bladed hub

_________________________________________________________

BL B S4 48 T 08 H
6th -7th characters, of our sample Serial Number, indicate the Propellers total Diameter.
This length - in approximate inches (as our Blade Cutting Jig is set to mm's) - includes the combined length of the Blades and the width of the Hub. It should also be noted here, that changing hubs will change the total propeller diameter - as our 912 hub is about an 1-inch wider than our Standard hub.

_________________________________________________________

BL B S4 48 T 08 H
8th character, of our sample Serial Number, indicates the Propellers Position on the Application (aircraft, boat, etc).

  • Possible Propeller Position Codes would be either: T or P
    1. T - Tractor
    2. P - Pusher

_________________________________________________________

BL B S4 48 T 08 H
9th - 10th characters, of our sample Serial Number, indicate the characteristics of the Blade's Pitching Pin setup.

  • Possible Propeller Pitching Pin Setup Codes would include: 08, 16, or 0 (or nothing)
    1. 08 - This indicates that the Pitching Pin hole was drilled at a 8-degrees pitch. This is the common pitch for holes drilled for 2-cycle engine applications. Blades with this included in their SN can use a Dowel Pin along with feeler guages for speed-setting their Pitch.
    2. 16 - This indicates that the Pitching Pin hole was drilled at a 16-degrees pitch. This is the common pitch for holes drilled for 4-cycle engine applications. Blades with this included in their SN can use a Dowel Pin along with feeler guages for speed-setting their Pitch.
    3. 0 - Or nothing in this position, indicates that NO Pitching Pin hole was drilled. These Blades were setup to use our New Digital Protractors. Pitching Protractors are the most acturate way to set your blades' pitch.

BL B S4 48 T 08 H
And lastly the 11th character, of our sample Serial Number, indicates the type of Pitching Pin to use with the Blades..

  • Possible Propeller Pitching Pin Setup Codes would include: H, P, or(or nothing)
    1. H - This indicates that a 1/4" Pitching Pin hole was drilled in the root of the Blade. A 1/4" dowel pin or drill-bit can be inserted into the hole, in conjunction with Feeler guages to set your blades' pitch.
    2. P - This indicates that a 3/16" Pitching Pin was permanently embedded into the root of the Blade. The embedded 3/16" pin can be used, in conjunction with Feeler guages, to set your blades' pitch.
    3. 0 - Or nothing in this position, indicates that NO Pitching Pin was setup. These Blades were setup to use our New Digital Protractors. Pitching Protractors are the most acturate way to set your blades' pitch.

For another example, Blade Serial #: " FLB9368P"

This Blade SN indicates that its diameter was dictated with use of a 912 3-bladed Hub. It is a "F" model, LEFT hand turning blade, cut for a 68-inch diameter on a Pusher craft.
